oh i was joking about the total power to clients comment, i should have inserted sarcasm tags.
anyhow my opinion on design is your opinion and my opinion is meaningless.its totally subjective, like music, and i think that is what is wicked about it. i am also a fan of accidental stuff or looking at things wrong and getting ideas that way.
i was reading that book "think and grow rich" and essentially there are 2 types of creativity; recycled creativity and pure creativity. and recycled creativity has had more of an impact on progression, plain and simple. in japanese society they got this concept called kaizen which means to continually improve things till they get better. this may be frustrating to witness from a design perspective, but just think of flash loading bars...one dude thought it would be cool to make a guy run across the screen to represent the loading, and another thought it would be even cooler to make things appear as the loading happened.
and something else to point out is obviously you're gonna get bored with stuff if you're a designer looking at "designer things" all day. sit someone who's never really checked out vector graphics in their life at the threadless site and they'l be blown away.
