I've no experience of Media 100... but i can offer some thoughts on Avid etc! Are you running Mac or PC? In my case working with Avid is a fairly pleasing experience (Mac G5) but it was terrible on the PC (Dell Workstation), all freelance Editors usually work and know Avid first, but it is expencive, and the support is pretty awful. If you are using Macs, then seriously consider Final Cut Pro HD, as it is very good, and integrates seamlessly with other Apple Apps, and is way ahead on Avid for value for money.
