No, don't do it. Very unhappy with my own Vaio. Let me break it down...
Sony loads a highly proprietized OS on their machines to work with their highly-proprietized components. So if you just want to install a clean copy of WinXP Pro, you'll suddenly find things not working. Ontop of that, sony has a bad track record of hardware breaking. And indeed my own laptop is in pieces now.
Get a toshiba or dell.
