I'm scared to death of typography because I don't know it very well. Trust me, If I knew more, I'd be doign better with fonts. I can probably see what better fonts to use.
I really had no better idea for the splash page...I have several 'pages' planned like that one. It's obviously an entrance into something..so the others are similar in that respect.
As for the 3d exploding thingy, I made that in illustrator. My plan was to make this version the lowbandwidth versino of the site and have a larger high bandwidth version so I made this crazy - image...that's the background image in the movie..the actual image is about 1200 wide...I think I was going for that gmunk-like humongo-site style.
I'm not really diggin the square background either...it seemed like it would work in my head but. I'm inclined to use the green to black gradient like on the splash page.
