IDE or firewire???

    depending on your machine.
    you probably have an ATA133 IDE connection.

    ATA133 only runs at 133MB/s
    SATA runs at 150MB/s
    Firewire (1) runs at 400MB/s
    Firewire 800 runs at 800MB/s

    but then again you probably have a FW conversion case to plug your HD into, and if your hard drive is ATA133 then it will only run at 133MB/s even through the firewire.

    same as in football, you computer is only as fast as it's slowest component. so you could have a Firewire 800 case for your hard drive but your transfer rate is only going to be as fast as your hard drive will go.

    so what it comes down to is if your PC has SATA get a SATA HD, if not then it is pure preference as to whether or not you want a portable FW HD or not
