Yeah that's cool if that's the printer he's using. Trust me, I've done cd and vinyl covers enough times to know some printers are weird like that. Call them, ask how they want it done, and if they have preferred templates.
Different printers have different ways of doing things. Work with the printer. Kiss ass if necessary, and you will get your stuff done the way you want it.
