Stick with Word format - I know ur a designer but the HR industry will love u more if you use word. Show off your design skills in an online portfolio and link to it from your word resume. Also use dark colors if you want to use color so it can be printed on a laser printer and still readable / faxable - trust me... as lame as it may seem. The door of opportunity will stop if people can't fax/copy/file you resume easily.
And yeh - content is king with resumes. Go more indepth with your skills, goals, if you don't have much experience - elaborate with case studies (what u did at each job to improve the job, why/how it worked, etc.)
