Same as jevad:
I arrived in Australia a few months ago where you NEED a car (I originally come from France where distances are rather small and public transport not too bad).
However, if ppl start to complain and put some pressure on public authorities to improve public transport, it's better than being resignated to buy a car.
Also, one should encourage car pooling: it's a shame to see all those empty cars riding on the highway every morning while you can fit 3 passengers in them ...
