i was born back in '72...
back then, our folks had plenty to worry about...
they watched the vietnam war on the evening news...we were in the middle of a constantly scary cold war.....
we'd just barely survived this...
univerisities were suddenly a place for the local mitilta to shoot up
the soviets went into afghanistan, and we suddenly had a new buddy...(free guess who)
all this happened, and through all of it our parents worried, fretted, thought that the world was going to hell in a handbasket..
and yet...
we grew up..
bought our records and tapes..
discovered cool music..
watched 'happy days' or saw ET for the first time..
watched saturday morning cartoons..
jumped in puddles..
skipped school for no reason, other than it seemed like a dangerous yet cool thing to do.got caught..
probably got grounded for a week or 2..read comics..
and basically, got along as most kids do...
more or less oblivious to the worries of our folks..now...you say that the kids today are growing up to fast?
perhaps..
then again, i'm not a kid anymore...
but my humble opinion, is that if you asked a kid these days, they'd just tell you they were growing up just fine..every gereration looks at what they've got for a world, and thinks..
well ....we are definitely fucked...and the kids today...is it me, or are they completely retarded????and yet...
we seem to be a pretty ok bunch..
mixed marriage is so common place now, it's hardly noticed...yet a generation ago, it was practically unheard of..
our parents generation would be scandalized if you smoke a joint..now you'd be hard pressed to find someone you know that hasn't...all in all, things aint so bad...
they sure as shit aint good..but they aint bad...
buck up sonny..
go outside..have an icecream, and remember..
going back to your youth would be fun..
but it's WAY more fun to be older...
cheers
