Unfortunately, when working in larger firms you often get piggon holed into one area of practice. In my experience smaller firms and freelance are the situations most apt to doing work in a variety of mediums.
I currently work as a broadcast designer for a large television conglomerate, but have web and print skills that don't often get utilized as much as I would like. However, I do freelance on the side which helps round out my portfolio.
