  I might be a little off page here, but the text file is just calling the href of the html page, rather than referring to the javascript for making the popup ?
  Cant you have it like..
  [a href='javascript:popup('url.html... stuff)']
  I think I've got this to work before.

  I didnt examine the jscript popupper in the page html that closely, but it seemed to be pretty standard..
