ice-core research shows that there is no norm when it comes to climate. "abrupt climate change" can happen in a matter of a years not centuries.
the current cycle (90,000 years of ice-age, 10,000 years of non-ice-age) has just about completed. It's no coincidence that human civ. is 10,000 years or so old.
