I cant believe how easy people are manipulated., even those who are critical of Bush and the war go along with this "oh it's only a rogue element of say 6 soldiers who unfortunately didn't have the proper training and it resulted in prisoner abuse".

I've been watching BBC news journalist repeatedly claim - "although those responsible for the torture are a minority, and it is nothing like the systematic torture and abuse of prisoners under Saddam, the perceptions in the Middle East will nonetheless be extremely damaging" Where do they get off making statements like that? Liberal media my arse.

If this was Milosevizs Serb army, or Gedaffi's Libyan's, or Kim Jung Il's North Korean's in those pictures, BBC news journalists would say something like "At last concrete proof that corrabarates all the accounts coming out of prison camps - the deteremined and systematic torture of prisoners under the regime".

Even though human rights orgnisations who have visited these camps and interviewed inmates have, since May 2003, been reporting on the use of violence and sexual degradation as a form of torture from both the Americans AND the British. Claims that have been refuted, repressed, and discredited by the coalition - from Bush to Blair to Bremmer, for over a year.

Many people have seen how ridiculously evil the grinning woman standing behind that tower of naked Iraqis looks and assumed that this is so outrageous that it MUST be the result of "sick" foot-soldiers who have run-amok in the absesnce of superiors - kinda like college kids at a frat-party. The media have been maniuplated by the Bush administration to portray what happened there as nothing more.

The truth is sexual degradation is a potent tactic used by military forces throughout the world to extract information from prisoners. The thinking behind it is that u degrade the prisoner so much through forced homosexualty that he/she looses all self-worth and becomes more "co-operative". You don't just come up with shit like that for the hell of it. It's classic techniques of psychological torture implemented by people who knew EXACTLY what they were doing.

And here we have a Western world so convinced that their governments and Armies - their "boyz" are so morally and ethically superior to the uncivllised Arabs that they would never lower themselves to those tactics. That they fight "clean" wars, pure wars. Isn't that what people like virtu who support their goverments claim? That they went to war in the name of "democracy" and "freedom of speech" - which means the war must be just ethically both in it's reasons and execution. I'm not surprised that the Right are convinced about this... but the so-called Liberals? Why are they buying into this "it's only a rogue element" argument that's been manufactured by the coalition and palmed off to the media? Why are they allowing the coalition to use a handful of soldiers as scapegoats? Because the President said he was "disgusted" by the pictures?
