I've got a very sexy Epson 1290S (S=Silver). It does A3 and A3+ and the output is absolutely stunning. It goes upto 2880 but I've never had to go above 1440 on Epson Premium Glossy Paper. Remember the higher the DPI... the more ink you use!
Initially I was torn between the 1290S and 2100 but I decided that running a printer with so many cartridges (2100) was going to cost a fortune compared to the reasonably priced 1290 carts.
Just a quick note on consistent colour management throughout your applications. I find it best to use Apple ColorSync in all my Adobe applications. Remember to switch on colour management in InDesign and choose ColourSync or the colours between Illustrator and InDesign will come out different (because they use different RGB and CMYK profiles).
