I recon the fact that ireland was in so much trouble trying to ensure that they would have two stadiums for the tournament played a fairly big role.
Croke park, 80,000 capacity is where they were hoping to have it, it was the major problem, croke park is owned by the GAA, (which is for the irish national sports, hurling and gaelic football) the gGAA would not let the FAI use it as soccer is not an irish sport..
