Yeah, I've used sweatx.net tshirts for some tee designs I did. I'm not sure of the exact ouncage. But they have held up well. If you give them a call they'll probably ship you a sample for the wholesale cost (~$4.50). I ordered a baby tee too just to see the quality and the fit and my wife likes it a lot.
I can't compare to American Apparel because I've never bought from them before, but I looked around a while for a sweatshop-free tshirt and am very pleased with sweatX.
