"what's the "design scene" in Mexico like anyway?"

Pretty much like everywhere else in the sense that there's good firms and agencies and mediocre ones and bad ones. Almost anything design wise, happens in Mexico city, but there's also firms iin some of the less important cities. The economy doesn't allow there to be lots and lots and lots of agencies and firms like in say... California. But it's decent. When you're fresh out of school you get paid peanuts and really the only way to make a decent living at this here is in advertising, motion graphics for t.v. or working for one of the most prestigious firms like Landor or Futurebrand or a direct independent competitor with good clients. And that's really once you get to a senior position and up (art or creative director). A creative director at one of the large agencies can make a very good living.

I worked at a small firm (10 peeps) as a senior designer. Made a decent living (until yesterday...)
