venice does have a lot of places like that you can definately afford to rent in a similar artsy like neighborhood. but theyre pricy.
there ARE some alternatives in echo park (still a city coming up but much much better than downtown) that will give you a similar living experience.
yall should come out here and see for yourselves. thats the best thing you could do.
