i've seen camel spiders during the 2 years I lived in the Negev desert and during my military service.
kinda sends shivers down your spine to look at them, since their color and texture is a bit like human skin.
I once saw a guy emptying a m-16 magazine on one of them, never heard of anyone getting bit, though.
