well thing is. you do have local area's which are much more acceptable and nicer. where you can shop for daily living. area's like de pijp or a part of the jordaan and some west and eastern parts. but amsterdam is ridiculous small so you're bound to hit the center all the time. rent wise it is twice, maybe more, as expensive as berlin (if you find anything at all in amsterdam, huge shortage). and going out, pfff, well i'm spoiled in berlin right now, but it's darn cheap here. and going out, amsterdam has gotten quite boring over the last few years. anyways, i used to love amsterdam, now it turned into a love/hate relationship because i've seen how a city can be.
