In any Mac app, the bullet is opt-8. For the often more classy "raised period" which is like a smaller bullet, type opt-shift-9.

raised period: ···If you're wanting indents too, use the tabs command (I forget the key cmd) and you'll get your standard word processor-like ruler for adjusting paragraph formatting.
