i think it is just that everything is a bit naked right now...the nav type is sort of floating in the middle of that gradient bar, nothing to ground it...it just needs some of the more subtle details...add a universal nav at the bottom (seems silly but that is where the privacy links and all go that dont need attention in the main nav)...add some actual content on the index rather than just the images it is right now, flesh it out more...i see this going in the right direction, just needs some more details to beef it up...
