I have to agree...
Most people in Japan piss themselves laughing when they see Kanji tattoo's on pop stars and footballers etc... Most of the Kanji is either wrong or really old Kanji that is no longer used.
I think the spice girls killed the trend with their so called Kanji for "girl power"
