Neighborly conflicts...
So, here’s the thing: every year, we buy a couple of tons of firewood from some folks who live up in the hills. They bring it over and even help us stack it—everything’s always been fine.
But this year, when I asked about the price, it turned out to be 20% higher than last year! "Damn it!" I said.
Well, two minutes later, his wife called me and absolutely tore me a new one—asking what the hell I was talking about, pointing out that they hadn’t raised their prices in four years... I apologized, saying there must have been some confusion.
And here’s the best part: it turns out she was right! I had an entry in my calendar from two years ago, and that was the price—they hadn’t raised it at all!
In short, I looked like a complete idiot—and worse, in front of a woman who, at the slightest provocation, would probably smash my face in (she’s at a difficult age and has a nasty temper).
They’re coming with the delivery tomorrow, and I’m so terrified I don’t know if I’ll even be able to sleep.
LOL
- lol! Yikes! Just put on your dumbest / sweetest face and humbly apologize... maybe include a modest yet lovely bottle of wine when you pay her? <3PonyBoy
- I had considered the wine idea, but, honestly, she’s such a surly person—"Do you think you can buy me with wine?"—and the next, she’s tearing me to shreds!OBBTKN
