FIFA earned more than $9 billion from the largest World Cup in history
The 2026 FIFA World Cup generated more than $9 billion in revenue, becoming the most profitable sports tournament ever, CNBC reports.
For the first time, 48 national teams took part instead of 32, and the number of matches increased from 64 to 104, boosting revenue from broadcasting rights, advertising, and ticket sales.
According to Fortune, world champions Spain received $51 million in prize money. Argentina earned $33 million for finishing second, while England received $29 million for third place.
Each team received at least $12.5 million for participating in the tournament. According to CNBC, FIFA is already considering expanding the 2030 World Cup to 64 teams.
