146 years ago they are still remembered, the 75 people killed in Dundee's Tay Bridge disaster on this day in 1879.
The evening of Sunday 28 December 1879 was a violent one. As a ferocious storm swept across the Tay, high winds battered the bridge while the train made its crossing.
Just after 7pm, the central spans gave way under the strain, sending the train and its passengers into the dark, freezing waters below. There were no survivors.

    • Those supports are still visible today, they built the new bridge next to them.Gardener

    • Superstition of throwing a penny out of the window of a train whilst crossing the bridge for good luck.microkorg
