Is it just storage or you need DAM too?
"designers don't end working locally and forgetting to backup their files" <- this only depends on the methods implemented into the workflow, using external storage doesn't gives you instant solutions to these issues.
back in 2016 i did a lot of research how to do this and we ended up using adobe cloud + secured local server + AWS backup only, made an interface to present the products and share assets with 3rd parties. this allowed a lot more flexibility with far less cost on the long run
and i still think its more reliable and faster than anything what can be cooked with 3rd party cloud services.it took 2 months to develop and this system worked until we closed shop in 2022, our only issue was the constantly growing AWS S3 bill but we had years of backups in there.
