As with most things involving narcissists, only the appearance of winning matters. He wants the public acknowledgment, not the work or merit behind it. The “recognition” itself, in the emptiest sense of the word, is the goal. With something like the Nobel Peace Prize: he has no interest in creating or sustaining peace, only in claiming the award.
