An underrated negative of American culture is how people are now being asked to tip everywhere on top of the ridiculous levels of inflation. IDK if most Americans realize it's not like this everywhere in the world.
It feels like a way for corporations to offload more costs onto consumers rather than actually paying their workers a decent wage.
- Trump is also encouraging this with the "no tax on tips" thing he passedyuekit
- You don't tip at all in most countries.bainbridge
- 30% tips?!?! Bjaahahahahahaa********
- In many civilized places tips is not only optional but sometimes an affront to the servers and staff********
- I leave €10¢ everyday when I pay my €1,40 coffee in the morning with €1,50, cause Ferran, the Catalan barman, is a very nice guy...maquito
- However, if I go to dinner somewhere, no matter how good it was, I pay with my card and get the fuck out of there.maquito
- ...BTW, in most places, if you sin on the terrace, they charge you 10% more.maquito
- We know.monospaced
- Notice how this design exploits human psychology, you can press no tip but then you feel like an asshole. Custom...too much work.yuekit
- In many cases they actually block the "no tip" with a sticker or something :))********
- Maquito is playing the stereotypical...canoe
- lol@graf - the last time you were in the states "they" did this to you?canoe
- graf making up bullshit, he’s never been to the US and probably never willmonospaced
- to be clear graf, they don’t block anything, and people aren’t paying 30%monospaced
- Maybe not in this economy mono, but it's not unheard of by any means, at least for food & cocktail service.canoe
- Anyone that is asking for a tip is making min or just over min wage. They probably need the extra 75 cents added to an ice cream...canoe
- Gratuity is a virtue. Being a chintzy fuck is not.canoe
- You asked "IDK if most Americans realize it's not like this everywhere in the world." Do you know why it's like that? LOOOL? They don't require tips!canoe
- Maybe half of yous never left the country so yeah it's a cultural thing********
- Lol @canoemaquito
- Companies could just pay their workers more. Instead of making other workers chip in to make up the difference.yuekit
- For a long time it was limited to waiters and that justifies paying them less than minimum wage.yuekit
- Then it seems like during the pandemic it was expanded to people working at Starbucks and other places like that.yuekit
- On one hand it's nice to give people a tip but who is this ultimately benefiting?yuekit
- Hospitality is very well paid here in Spain; the shifts are very long, but it's not the kind of job where the worker needs a tip to earn a good salary.maquito
- Sorry for the stereotypical comment, again, canoe! ;Pmaquito
- It runs in the family, right? hacanoe
- sadly..maquito
- I’ve been to about 20 countries, including most of Europe and Romania. You’ve never been here. lolmonospaced
- 100 million Americans traveled abroad pre COVID. That's like 1/3 graf, not 1/2, but still that's more people than 180 countries even have!canoe
- Plus, since you're a low bandwidth thinker, let me remind you that we have a huge country, and plenty to see, so there's no reason for some to travel to EUcanoe
- And on top of that my bookmarking friend, we have the beautiful Caribbean to the south and wild Canada to the north.canoe
- So, yah, Romania might be calling on QBN, but there's too much of everything else to see first right here in our own country. Hold it against us, as if we care.canoe
- Visiting other countries contributes to your personal growth, no wonder most of you are entitled pricks and rednecks********
