I dragged my old triple vinyl copy of Glastonbury Fayre 1971 out kicking and screaming into the sunshine this afternoon. I lost the outer bag/inserts years ago but this still stands up as one of the great mad live albums of the 70's.
It sounds hippy & all but it's sadly not as much of a fun festival as when I first started going in 1981. It was my regular summer trip (arf) with friends, I ended up going 13 times until the early 00's when even by then it had became too much of a corporate behemoth, it was less fun and more of a chore - it wasn't my age, haha! I've had some fucking nightmare weekends there though, raining all weekend can kill it, friends freaking out on drugs and refusing to get out of the car for the entire weekend, getting stuff nicked, bad trips, breaking down on the way there, and the fucking QUEUES! But I have mainly good memories, some incredible music, sleeping and just staying in the comedy tent for 2 days, scrumpy from a horse drawn wagon (probably for tuppence ha'penny, I can't quite remember) some amazing experiences watching films on giant screens and an overall feeling of having had a great time with good friends and even a few braincells left, well a handful.
