I haven't drank alcohol in 4 months. I had been drinking beers almost everyday for the past 3 decades. I justified my drinking because it was mostly beer, some wine and rarely hard liquor. It really snowballed during covid isolation/work from home and a failing marriage. I was drinking at least 6 IPAs a day at the end.
I quit cold turkey and had some troubles sleeping and with depression and anxiety so I went to my doctor and he said I was having alcohol withdrawal symptoms and I shouldn't have tried to quit cold turkey. I was confused because I said I was only drinking 4-6 beers a day and he then asked "for how long?" Its really ads up if you're still drinking like a 21 year old college student into your 50's.
I'm not sure how long this is going to last but I want to keep it going. I've made it through a Celebration of Life and a wedding both with open bars. The real test was signing my divorce papers. I really wanted to stop at a bar or pick up a 6 pack and drink my feelings but I didn't.
I took this on St Patricks day this year. Felt good not to be hungover on the 18th for the first time decades.
