I've been on the opposite journey but it's taken me longer. I've gained ~20kg (44 lbs) in 8 years.
I used to run 5-6 times a week up to ~70km (45 miles) per week. Tried to do strength training once a week.
I used to have a varied diet and drank occasionally, was only interested in nutrition from a theorical point of view, only applied it during running and recovery. What I changed:
I completely stopped running and started drinking daily. My diet hasn't changed much, it's mostly plant based. I haven't noticed any difficulties in slow paced activities like bike riding in the weekend or hikes on flat terrain. But if there's an incline I can feel the pressure. Basically, I can climb 3 sets of stairs before I start to feel my age.Just putting it out there to confirm the changes that matter.
- Keep it strong! If we were all slim and fit, the world would be very boring ;)OBBTKN
- But, hey! Watch your knees... Whenever I gained weight, they were the first thing I noticed was failing...OBBTKN
