I guess the most recent "golden age" of the US might be post-WWII boom, around the 1950's; America emerged as a global superpower, with massive industrial growth, suburban expansion, strong middle class.
A high school diploma could get you a house, a car, and support a family. College was affordable and often free in public institutions. There was a big government investment in infrastructure, education, and science (think: highways, NASA, public schools). There was more trust in institutions, and America was a manufacturing powerhouse.
Today, dual-income households still struggle to afford basics like housing, childcare, and healthcare, sadly.
- I don't care how big anyones ego can get, it's just stupid to argue that the United States didn't have a golden age...canoe
- I'd even argue that pre-tech-bubble-burs... and during Clinton, America was feeling very golden.canoe
