Alright nerd(s):
Conundrum...
...Getting a new laptop, BUT can't decide between a (refurbished) M4 Macbook Pro (16") OR a (new) M4 Macbook Air.
The price difference is NEARLY half, AND I'm not generally using the thing for multiple 4k videos, rendering(s), etc. SOOO I think i may be able to pass on the extra power.
OR
Anyone have experience gearing down from the "Pro" world?

- I have the m2 air and it handles everything flawlessly. The only drawback is internal storage but external drives take care of that I guess._niko
- @_niko, did you grab 512GB? You cloud storage? I'm 100% Dropbox SOOO I'm unsure I need much more...ideaist
- I can literally grab a MacBook Air AND an iPad Pro for the price of a MacBook Pro!ideaist
- Also @_niko, what RAM amount?ideaist
- the air is so much nicer for travel. I have the 16 pro and I hate schlepping it around********
- M3 Air does everything I need but I don't do a lot of video, mostly coding, some CS and Logic. 16GB Ram / 512GB.fadein11
- idealist, yeah on the cloud as well but if it stores some project files locally as well it can fill up fast. 8gb ram and 256GB storage_niko
- so with even those meek specs it's still insane, I can't imagine how an m4 chip with more ram and storage would perform, just nuts._niko
- Fantastic wisdom(s) dude(s).
Thank you.ideaist - I have an M3 air. My 2018 MBP screen died and I didn't have the $ to buy an MBP. The Air is great, no complaints unless you keep a ton of tabs open.mg33
- @mg33, its downfall is tabs?! Lolz.ideaist
- From a resource management perspective, Chrome and Slack are dogshit apps********
- @nb I know Chrome is a bit blaoted/sluggish at times; what browser do you use? Fuck Slack (I work solo).
; )ideaist - I'll always reco a MacBook Pro (because awesome), but honestly, 16" is entirely too big. Heavy beast, that.
I have the M1 14" and that's plenty large enough.Continuity - Safari. There’s a reason Apple invests in a browser. Nothing can compete (on a Mac or iOS device).********
- Safari, eh?
I'm ALWAYS avoiding Apple Software; 3rd party for calendar, tasks, mail, browser(s), etc. BUT I guess they DO know their own hardware, eh?ideaist - Yeah same. I don’t like Apple calendar, mail, reminders, Numbers, etc. I do like Apple Notes, but that’s about it.********
- Still there’s no reason you can’t use safari and google calendar and Gmail********
- Safari is so good on Mac and iOS. And battery life is significantly better with Safari. Like +50% longer.********
