Are people with salaried jobs living paycheck to paycheck?

One coworker who's in her early 30s was trying to organize a dinner out, but asked if we could do it next week, because that's when we get paid.

Another wanted to buy some furniture from me. An old table I'm letting go for $100. She gladly took it, but asked if she could pay me the next week after payday.

The first person, I know she was recently in credit card debt due to an event, but the second one is early 30's too and seemingly has been working salaried office jobs for the last few years.

I don't know them well enough to pry, but this makes me wonder how they buy anything without stressing. They normally buy coffees and lunch at work.

    • One survey said 60% of folk live that way, but it's reckoned to be closer to 25%. 1 in 5 people earning over 150k are also check to check.PhanLo
    • It's increased a lot in the last few yearsPhanLo
    • What field are they in, and what region?
