I passed my test in 1985 and started driving in a dodgy second hand mini van. The only tale of note I can remember about it was driving down the busy A5 in the rain when a stone flew up from a lorry and blew out the windscreen. The whole thing shattered into a mosaic of tiny bits so I had to quickly slow down and punch a hole in it so I could see. I then drove on with the rain & wind lashing into my face, no pulling over or ringing the AA or RAC for me, oh no, I just headed straight for home. I don't remember anything else about it, sorry old mini van, but you got me home in one piece.
