Kanye is mentally ill. As the brother of my usually dear, sweet, loving, and intelligent (and woke!) sister with schizophrenia, do I believe mental illness excuses this kind of behavior? Yes. Yes, I do.

When my sister is psychotic, she says—or rather, screams—outrageous things. Racist things. Homophobic things. She once screamed at our mom, “DID YOU SLEEP WITH MY BOYFRIEND?” (She doesn’t have a boyfriend.) She became convinced that cats were sending her telepathic messages about a bomb placed under city hall by Muslim terrorists and even called the police about it. She thought my iPhone controlled my heart and warned me never to turn it off. And that’s just the beginning.

If you judge Kanye, you might as well judge the homeless person shouting delusions on the street—someone you’d likely ignore and feel sorry for. The only difference? Kanye is a billionaire with a platform, using Twitter for the same all-caps SCREAMING.

He is sick. Ignore it. Feel sorry for him. Move on.

    • I never heard any autistic people or such with psychological issues say dumb stuff like he does. Seems autism is now an excuse for everythingNBQ00
    • < boomer opinion
      ********
    • He’s also Bipolar, as I understand it. A condition known for psychosis-like manic episodes.jagara
    • Autism has nothing to do with schizophrenia or psychotic episodes. Go away.monospaced
    • Autism isn’t a psychological issue. Just... go away.monospaced
    • The fact that he read autism says a lot.palimpsest
    • Elon is the same

      ********
    • I meant in regards to Kanye and Elon. They both claim they're autistic and many are saying their dumb antics should be forgiven because of it. It's an excuseNBQ00
    • Doing a Nazi salute because "he's autistic" doesn't make it ok. And should not be ignored.NBQ00
    • Or "I love Hitler" and "Nazis are great" because "he has psychotic issues or is autistic" shouldn't be ignored. He has a big reach with his tweets. Fuck him.NBQ00
    • I’ve never heard Elon use it as an excuse. FUCK OFFmonospaced
    • Mostly his fans and he did also imply it occasionally. Why are you so aggressive all the time, mono darling?NBQ00
    • Also, I'm indifferent to Kanye as an artist. And again, bipolar disorder can make you have psychotic episodes.jagara
    • He even made an album titled "I hate being bipolar, its awesome".jagara
    • I wasn’t aggressive until you continued with your irrelevant ignorant diarrhea after being calmly told to go away you’re irrelevantmonospaced
    • If you're talking to me, I don't obey random internet people's demands to "go away", calm or otherwise. No one does XDjagara
    • Including NBQ00jagara
    • I think mono just misunderstood what I was saying. And went psychotic himself. Kanye may be bipolar, but that doesn't excuse his rants nor should we ignore itNBQ00
    • Okay. Replace the word "excuses" with the word "explains". Better?jagara
    • I wasn’t talking to you jagara, I’m in a similar relationship and experience to you and I didn’t like autism being comparedmonospaced
    • Sorry to hear about your sister Jagara. Sounds tough going. I've always been intrigued by Kanye thinking he's a massive troll but never knew where his line wasIanbolton
    • Like, Dave Chappelle would always say he's a genuis and everyone in Brooklyn would love him, yet now I feel we've lost him.Ianbolton
    • He'll do anything for attention.
If 15 years ago he had gone silent the Kubrick way, he would actually be viewed as the genius he constantly needs to say he is
      spl33nidoru
    • The fact he has a platform and massive influence is precisely why it can't and shouldn't be ignored.i_monk
    • So what exactly are you going to do about it? Criticize him? Yeah, he seems very receptive to that.jagara
    • "it's best to hear people's thoughts rather than see the consequences of them"Ianbolton
