I've this morning been informed I should expect a £12 a month increase to my water bill, this after moving to a new place about 200m over a few months back, same size family, but water bill went up £25 because there's an extra bedroom, so in less than four months my water bill has almost doubled.

Still, as long as shareholders and directors keep getting handsomly rewarded, that's all that matters, I suppose.

    • before thames water were privatised they had no debt (apparently). the cunts that bought them were somehow allowed to offload an £18bn debt onto the company.hans_glib
    • Yeah, that's in The Grauniad link.
      And I meant £19, not £12.

    • For us here, every summer our water consumption mysteriously increases, when it really goes down, like gas consumption in winter...OBBTKN
    • We heat the house with firewood.

It's very simple. They are thieves! Guillotine and fire!!

    • The robbing bastards... Rateable Property Value vs Meter. Could you get a meter installed? Although i hear it can work out more expensive.Morning_star
    • That's my current strategy, there's no way we use £80 of water a month. I only shower on the new moon...Nairn
    • Don't you have a metre? In which case what they charge will be an estimate and you could just end up paying more than your usagekalkal
    • Yep, I want to get one installed.Nairn
    • I find it abhorrent they would privatise a basic human need just to make more money for investors. It's Thatcher's legacy that keeps on givingIanbolton
    • Maybe try and role play a Dune-style life where every drop is of upmost importance - drinking your own sweat?Ianbolton
    • They charge by rooms, not usage?monospaced
    • The cost is based on the rateable value of the property not the number of inhabitants. So 20 people in a 2 bed house would pay lots less than 1 person in a...Morning_star
    • ...5 bed house. You can opt to have your water metered which can save money.Morning_star
    • That's because of how it's split among the residents? Or more people lowers the bill for the property? We're all required to have meters, so this is fascinatingmonospaced
    • @ian I find it insane that something you're lumped with, that there's no other option about is privatised, not like you're going to find a better deal...kalkal
    • ...dumbest thing they could have privatised, even dumber than power, but that's still up therekalkal
