Mark Lanegan 60 | The Roundhouse, Camden, London

It pissed down as we waited in the queue to get in, we endured the unmistakable Camden vibe of flashingly-illuminated grim commercial outlets swimming in the ever-present aroma of weed and fried chicken.
The inevitable AQM’s walked down the length of the growing queue only to return back to the end after taking Cercie’s walk of shame with slightly less shit flinging.
It was a bleak start to a gig that, if the rumours were true, promised so much.
Our seats were good, second tier, slightly left of the stage. As we waited for the show to start we dried off slightly and warmed our synical hearts with a couple of pints of pretty decent cider. Things were looking up.
The show was a tribute to Mark Lanegan featuring a shit load of artists that had worked with him over the years and it did not disappoint...
Dave Gahan, Josh Homme, Greg Dulli, Chrissie Hyde, Alison Mossheart, Duke Garwood, Troy Van Leeuwen, Soulsavers...
and others brought us a set of some of Mark’s most memorable songs.
Myself and M_s junior were blown away, it was a very special show and a fitting remembrance of one of my favourite artists celebrated by some of my other favourites. Fucking magical.

PS: Our train back to Brum was 11:30. The show’s curfew 11. To navigate exiting the venue, dashing to Chalk Farm tube station, then the ride to Euston and the dash from the tube station to the overground trains was going to be a test. And at 11:10 we were still in the venue and I was wondering how much a hotel was gonna cost.
Who knew you could get to Euston from the Roundhouse in 13 minutes, it was a fucking miracle. As we dashed across the concourse at Euston to our platform we were stopped in our tracks by the coolest wildlife encounter I’ve had ever had and, we caught our train. Say hello to Station Fox, the icing on the cake of a great evening.

    • Lucky! I had no idea that Dave Gahan was going to be there. I was excited for Josh Homme (first appearance since medical issues) and Greg Dulli.fooler
    • I'm a huge fan of the Afghan Whigs and saw Greg and Mark tour as the Gutter Twins once.fooler
