I think Israel, at this point, is as self-destructive as a suicide bomber. Massacring innocents en masse is no different than killing yourself.
I’ve met a few Israelis over the past months, some support the war, others are against it, but they all carry a heavy burden of distress. It’s impossible to go through something like this unscathed, no matter what side you're on.Unlike the U.S., which operates from a safe distance, Israel needed to build bridges before resorting to scorched-earth tactics, but now it seems too late. Regardless of how many nuclear warheads they possess, lasting peace seems nowhere in sight for that state.
Here’s a thoughtful article on the lasting collective trauma, written by one of my favorite Jewish thinkers.

"Maybe you deposit your paycheck at a bank that uses that money to fulfill its capital requirements so that it can expand its loan portfolio, which then gets securitized and sold to an instititutional investor, which uses the profit to invest in a fund that capitalizes a logistics firm that coordinates weapons manufacturing supply chains... and so on for another fifty steps that end with a child whimpering next to her dead parents in the rubble of their apartment.
My friends, we are deeply enmeshed in the machinery of murder. It is also the machinery of degradation and ecocide and the liquidation of culture and health and the human spirit. Few of us can attach our discomfort to a single act."- agree, pretty bleak days ahead for Israel, the Middle East and the world as a whole. I was trying to figure out an end game where everyone comes out happy but I_niko

- The Right wing in Israel doesn't care about immediate consequence. They've a thousand-year form of thinking where this shit's concerned. Bibilical.Nairn
