What's happening with this "immigrants eating cats" story is ironically similar to what you'd expect to see in a less educated part of the developing world where people without access to reliable media fall for hysterical made up rumors.

For instance in Myanmar Buddhist extremists spread fake stories on Facebook resulting in violence against Muslims.

    • Out of interest Yuekit, which media is reliable?Morning_star
    • Anyone who actually does the work to research and check claims in a serious way.yuekit
    • In the USA most original reporting comes from organizations like the Associated Press, NY Times, Wall Street Journal.yuekit

    • way some random guy on Facebook doesn't, even if he's telling a more exciting story.yuekit
    • claiming the NYT and WSJ have 'journalistic principles' is the most hand-waving lib shit I have ever heard.face_melter
    • I said compared to a random guy on Facebook, this shouldn't be controversial.yuekit

    • media or alternative news sites, you're probably confusing commentary with original reporting.yuekit
