Went to see Romulus last night. It was gripping, brilliantly shot, some great action scenes, can't remember much about any of the characters and it stretched the realm of imagination towards the end. But come on, it's an Alien film. It was loud, full of jumps and scares and the Xenomorph is a great character. Would recommend, but don't expect it to be anything other than bombastic and ridiculous.

    • Sounds perfect:) Bringing my boys to see it at the weekend.mort_
    • How old are they Mort? My GF was hanging on to me most of the way through, once they get on board the ship. Hope they like a few jumps!Ianbolton
    • Perfect summation ... it’s an “Alien Film”
What were your thoughts on the use of AI?

    • @ian 15 and 18. They like a jump scare or two.mort_
    • Hey Ram, i thought most of the CGI was kinda seamless. Some of the scenes stretched the realm of belief - and CGI just encourages thatIanbolton
    • I meant more of the scene with a certain dead actor whose AI face was used.
I think they could have handled it much better than they did.

    • the rest VFX/CGI was really well done.
Whole look of the movie was perfect.

    • oh right. Yeah, I felt like it was glitchy enough to pass as a cybernetic fuck up over time. Know what you mean though. Seemed plausibleIanbolton
    • yup and other than that, I had a blast.Ramanisky2
    • I listened to a conversation with Fede Álvarez on The BIg Picture podcast and he went into some depth in terms of the process of the Ian Holms character...Morning_star

    • I'll check that podcast out. Always loved the sinister undertones of all the androids in the alien franchise. Like they ultimately want rid of humans?Ianbolton
    • @IB This is the one. https://podcasts.app…Morning_star
    • The interview's towards the end, good discussion before hand though.Morning_star
    • They discuss the androids ambiguous nature throughout the Alien canon during the pod. I thought the 'Andy' character was super sinister when he 'changed'.Morning_star
    • Great acting too.Morning_star
    • Absolutely, David Jonsson did a fantastic job of playing good/bad.Ramanisky2
    • Enjoyed the first half. Second half got a bit silly. The xenomorph’s main purpose seemed to be to show off its teeth.mort_
