The Danish queen abdicated, she broke the news at her speech new years eve. Her son will become the king on january 14th.
I don't care for monarchy. A total, utter anachronism in 2024.
However.
She always seemed like a good, warm person, who very genuinely cared about our country and its people. And she's been a very notable and integral part of Danish culture, however you felt about her.
She gave her last new years speech yesterday. She always adds "God save Denmark", but this year she added "And God save all of you". Got seriously choked up, as did a lot of the people who I watched the speech with.
Apparently she means something to me.
