Swimming in the ocean (in Copenhagen) at this time of year, when the water is around 15 C. Stay out for 10-15 minutes, get seriously cooled down. Put on a hooded sweatshirt. Bike home. Feel fantastic for hours afterwards.

I've extended the swimming season to be 6 months of the year, starting in April.

There really is a lot to this cold water trend. It's calming, anti depressive, mood elevating. If I had the room (and the money) I'd get one of those cold plunge pools at home.

    • I usually shower with cold water, especially my legs, (after a long bike ride); It works wonders, especially because otherwise I'm a walking cramp, lolOBBTKN
    • I have the beaches 20 minutes by car, but, a shame, I am quite water-repellent, I prefer the mountains to the sea. Enjoy!!OBBTKN
    • Nice. I've been doing the cold showers since I was a kid. My mom insisted on it for some reason. I couldn't end a shower without cold water :)jagara
    • A Swedish friend swears by it, for him it keeps his downward spirals at bay. The best I can manage is a cold shower after a hot ride, I don't reckon I can do itBuddhaHat

    • Any change in your usual conditions will have an effect in your body and psyche. That is why fad diets are all the rage.palimpsest
    • Cold water baths, fad diets, chiropractors and mouse traps all look the same to me is all I'm saying.palimpsest

    • Not on a regular, but when I do swim in the Great Lakes, I feel like a lot of aches and pains subside.canoe
    • As an ex-runner I'm not saying there's no direct benefit from cold temperatures on muscles for recovery. The cold bath thing just seems like something else.palimpsest
    • Years ago, I dove headfirst into a beach in Galicia (where none of the town was in the water) and I immediately realized why...OBBTKN

    • I dove into the Adriatic Sea in early April of this year. It was fun but I can't say I've reached enlightenment.palimpsest
    • Who said anything about enlightenment. It just feels good in your body afterwards. And it's really good at lifting a shitty mood.jagara
