I need to ask something about Ballet. I saw one on Saturday night. My first.

Wife gets us tickets to the world premier of Black Sabbath - The Ballet. Deep in the cultural heart of Birmingham, just opposite Mr Egg. Amongst the hoi palloi we spotted Sharon Osborne, Toni Iomi and Robert Plant plus some other 'regional' celebrities.

Now, here's the rub. I've absolutely no idea if it was any good or not. I thoroughly enjoyed each of the three acts, the orchestra and lighting design were excellent but it all felt like Top Of The Pops in the 80s when the artist couldn't perform so they'd have Legs & Co. dancing instead. The finale featured Tony Iomi playing Iron Man surrounded by the whole cast impressively dancing, gyrating and jumping about. Which in itself was great, however all i could think about was the TV series Fame and the casts impromptu busy-NY-street dancing scenes.

    I think it was great.

    • did the regional slebs include steve gibbons?hans_glib
    • Not even that good. Nick Owen, the news readerMorning_star
    • Now this is a ballet I can get behind_niko
    • What is the question?palimpsest
    • How do I assess the dance/narrative quality of the ballet?Morning_star
    • If you liked it that's great. I know I'm elitist when it comes to art. If someone with more knowledge can get more from it than good for them.palimpsest
    • But you're also getting something from it that they'll never be able to get again.palimpsest
    • so envious.
I'm a huge fan of the band, and had heard about the Ballet, and am SO curious to see it.
