This a bit of a rambling and very brief summary of an event from my past which I was sharing with someone who asked me about a life journey. So I related this story which I guess is OK to share with you guys as just typing it out brought back tons of memories (I did keep a diary at the time too so have oodles of sordid details, lol)

In brief as I can put it, I once went on a weekend trip to Amsterdam with a mate and we had a great first night out dancing in a club, however the following morning he decided he just wasn't enjoying the vibes in the city so decided to head home. I had no intention of doing so and hung around for a couple more days, when I happened to get friendly with an Australian lady who was working her way around Europe and South America and had been in the city for a few weeks. I met her in a hotel one morning and we hit it off straight away and we went on dates chatting and playing endless games of backgammon (and smoking industrial amounts of weed) and quickly became good friends but kept it cordial.

When I left to go home a few days later I gave her my address in England and hoped we might meet up again one day. Three months later my doorbell rang out of the blue she was standing on my doorstep. I invited her in of course and we carried on our friendship like we'd met just the day before but it escalated to sex within days. We got on so well she stayed with me for another 2 months and by Christmas of that year she said she wanted to head back home to Australia and maybe we could do some travelling together and would I come with her. So I put my flat on the market and within weeks I had sold it and we headed down under on one-way tickets.

When we arrived in Oz her parents were overjoyed their daughter had returned after so many years working and travelling abroad. They were not so overjoyed that the man she'd come home with was hoping to take her off travelling again only this time to Asia. After a few weeks of stressful living in their house (dad was a racist ex gambler, mum was paranoid pill popper) we moved into a flat together in Sydney, but the money I had saved was already starting to go down rapidly and even more so when I started getting bad toothache. Having no dental insurance I got hit for $2,000 and I was forced to try and find work to raise enough money to carry on our travelling dream.
I had no work permit at the time so took what I could get but the stress of all this put our relationship under more pressure, so much so that we split up. So I was left alone in a foreign country with no girlfriend little money and not even a plane ticket home. I was starting to get to my wits end when just by chance I saw an advert for a fortune teller reading Tarot Cards so thought what I have I got to lose but a couple of dollars. So I took a punt on something I had never previously considered before and the lady who read my cards told me I would reunite with my girlfriend and that we would indeed go travelling in Asia all within a few months but, although I would have a great time she would get really poorly and have misfortune and would want to return home and that we would split up for good somewhere overseas.

Well to cut a long story short we DID get back together, we DID go travelling in Nepal, India, Burma, etc and I had an absolutely fantastic time however despite me never telling my girlfriend what the fortune teller had told me (as she thought it was all a load of bollocks anyway) she did indeed have a rotten time, getting food poisoning three times and even ending up in hospital on an island in Thailand after nearly chopping her hand off on a ceiling fan.
We finally made it back to England after many months but returning to a rainy Milton Keynes was the final straw and she decided to go back to sunny Australia offering me the chance to go with her but I just decided to stay and start a life afresh here, so when she flew out of Gatwick Airport that was the last time I ever saw her, but so many journeys starting from a chance meeting in a hotel foyer. I should probably write a book haha.
