How much fossil fuel does it take to charge a Tesla EV?

It takes roughly 70 to 80 pounds of coal (or about 8 to 10 gallons of oil) to produce the energy required to charge a 66 kWh electric vehicles (EVs) battery.

    • that is dumb.

    • Nahh planet don't need saving. We'll all die before the planetpango
    • It takes 1 gallon of oil to produce .67 gallons of gasoline so that means it’s equivalent to 5-7 gallons of gas to fill up your Tesla which is not bad?_niko
    • apples to oranges. you can't compare these things like this, its a completely different energy carrier.
      ********
    • But you can generate electricity from other renewable sources than coal!! Isn’t the bigger issue the mining and subsequent disposal of all the lithium used thedee-dubs
    • Batteries??dee-dubs
    • Yeah it’s all a shitshow. Hydrogen is the way to go._niko
