I'm sick and tired of people ripping on Mel and his movie. It's a movie. It's based on a true story. Whether you are a Christian or not, the movie is still an epic that is worth seeing. I'm sure my life will be changed somewhat after seeing it too - like after watching Schindler's List, my life was changed (still on my top 3 of all time list).

My other contention is that people are discounting it as historical without researching it at all! The only question of historicity comes in the account of the resurrection. Other than that, Jews, Christians, and better still, Historians that focus on that time period are in little doubt as to the events of crucifixion. You'd be hard pressed to find a reputable historian (read: non-tabloid) that will disagree with the events as laid out in the New Testament.

Whether you agree with the account of the resurrection or not is one thing... but don't reject historical evidence. It makes me ill to know that so many people would rather believe agenda driven journalists / reporters / and a whole list of non-historians rather than look into the matter itself.
