Asylum seekers ‘living in fear’ as more UK anti-migrant protests planned
Tensions mount at Dunstable meeting as Hope Not Hate flags five far-right affiliated demonstrations planned this weekendThe anger was palpable as hundreds of Dunstable residents filed into the town’s historic Priory church on Thursday evening.
There was a meeting to air concerns about the recent arrival of asylum seekers to a popular hotel across the road, but the subjects of the assembly were too terrified to attend and defend themselves.
They had seen a leaflet, widely distributed in the town, by far-right Patriotic Alternative activists bearing an image of asylum seekers in a dinghy. There was another showing the hotel, where they have been moved to by the Home Office, emblazoned with the slogan “You pay Migrants Stay”.

- No one is saying no to issuing work visas for those that have been offered work in sectors where we need workers - doctors, teachers etc.shapesalad
- For those that do come to the country legally, after arduous work with visa applications and high fees, it's an insult to see people paddle in illegally.shapesalad
- There's a hotel full of them near me. They get three square meals a day, free heating, pocket money etczardoz
- Meanwhile, it's heating or eating (sometimes neither) for many indigenous Britons. It's not unreasonable to ask what the fuck's going on here..zardoz
- Immigrants granted work visas = ok. Asylum seekers applying in the first safe country they reach, fulfilling requirements and the governments quote = all ok.shapesalad
- Coming in illegally, was somewhat manageable a few years ago, but is untenable now. To be expect that people are piss and the right will use it for leverage.shapesalad
