There were two West Coast American-sounding women on the bus today, as I came in to work. Both of them had the most egregious vocal fry I've ever heard in person and I ended up laughing at myself at how angry it was making me as they yakked on and on.
I was dearly wanting to turn around and demand they STOP. THAT. NONSENSE. NOW.
It's such a horrid sound. I don't know why certain people choose to deploy it.
.
This isn't me being anti-American. it's specifically the vocal fry, not an otherwise often-charming American accent.

*adds to playlist*Nairn - Vocal fry is a term I only heard for the first time this week. And now I’ve heard it several times.monospaced
- Vocal fry is pretty old shit, people sound not only less competent, but very retarded********
- I understand that what I have heard is not new obviously. I’m just talking about the term itself being new to me.monospaced
